The Safaricom Decode is an esteemed event that brings together industry experts, government officials, technologists, students, and thought leaders to explore and showcase the latest advancements and innovations in engineering and technology. We (SHUANGDENG GROUP CO,. LTD.) are feeling proud to be a strategic partner of Safaricom Energy Summit - De{c0}dE 3.0 2025 East Africa Edition.

Our team had participated panel discussion on the topic “Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS): A Game Changer for Energy Resilience and Sustainable Connectivity” together with Michal Klugiewicz- Senior Business Development Manager for Delta Electronics (Switzerland) AG, Dennis Chepkwony- Power Subject Matter Expert, Safaricom PLC & Michael Ogonji- Renewable Energy Expert, PPP & PPA Specialist, KenGen.

Our Deputy CTO Telecom Business Unit Mohammed Obaydullah had participated in a panel discussion and had answered the question from the host as below,

  • Why energy storage and what to consider?

To ensure uninterruptable operation of service energy storage is must as backup power on gird outage or fluctuation.

we have to consider some factors for selection of energy storage such as,

1.     Application type: standby or cyclic

2.     Backup demand: short backup or long backup duration

3.     Operating environment: high or medium or low temperature and humidity

4.     Site Infrastructure: accommodation space, load bearing capability

  • Future trends & challenge for LFP

LFP has significantly advantages for energy storage but still there is some challenges like;

1.     Recycling difficulties: Zinc-Bromine and sodium-ion battery is more environment friendly for recycling

2.     Earth’s crust abundance: 0.006% Lithium and 2.64% Sodium

3.     Unstable price trend: because of geopolitical issue lithium price some time increase crazy

4.     Low temperature operation: sodium-ion can discharge up to -40°C

The event was sponsored by Delta, Huawei, Ericsson, Oracle, AWS, Dell Technologies, MPesa, RedHat, Copy Cat Group, Andela.
